What are e-cigarettes?

Electronic cigarettes (also called e-cigs, e-cigarettes and electronic vaping devices) are battery-powered devices that offer alternative modes of smoking to traditional, tobacco-based products. It’s lack of tobacco that has made it a popular alternative for a growing number of people around the world. The liquid is heated not burnt.

What is vaping?

Vaping is the act of inhaling the water vapour released by e-cigs. People usually use “vaping” more casually and use the term to refer to the physical act of smoking an electronic cigarette.

Why would I use an electronic cigarette?

There are many reasons why people vape. One main reason is to provide a tobacco-free alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. Another is that smoking e-cigarettes is much cheaper than smoking traditional cigarettes – especially with the increase in taxes on standard cigarettes.

Also, with Vapes, you won’t have the smell of tobacco cigarettes lingering around your hair, clothes, and breath, you can even vape at home without needing to worry about ash or smell.

Are e-cigarettes safe?

There has been a lot of debate about the safety of e-cigarettes. Although they don’t contain all of the harmful chemicals present in tobacco cigarettes, some claim that the long-term effects of e-cigarettes have not yet been tested.

However, many doctors and experts in health have greatly encouraged vaping to the public (and their patients) as an alternative to smoking. We have a few videos from Dr Michael Siegel and Dr Lynne Dawkings about the safety of electronic cigarettes.
